George Osborne takes role with ‘most exciting company in the world’ OpenAI

Former chancellor George Osborne is joining artificial intelligence company OpenAI in the latest of a series of jobs he has taken on since leaving government.
Mr Osborne will become chief executive and chairman of London-based OpenAI for Country.
He said it was “the most exciting and promising company in the world right now” and would lead its work with governments around the world.
Mr Osborne, who was chancellor from 2010-16, said the OpenAI for Countries initiative aimed to help “societies around the world share the opportunities brought by this powerful technology”.
The former chancellor co-hosts the Political Currency podcast, is chairman of the British Museum, co-chair of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership and an advisor to cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.
He said he was leaving his position as a senior managing director at investment bank Evercore to take on the OpenAI role.
Mr Osborne has held a number of jobs since leaving Parliament in 2017, having previously edited the Evening Standard and held positions at financial firms Blackrock and Robey Warshaw.
