Bendigo Writers Festival opens with dozens of events cancelled; Bookish book-selling partner; sponsor La Trobe University code of conduct
“First of all, our concern is about censorship and inextricable cost,” he said.
“We cannot speak for writers and reasons, but there is nothing better than silenceing smart and engaged people who speak against injustice. Complex speeches, such as those who occur in the authors festivals, are very important to address complex problems local and globally.”
Since the publication of the code, at least 34 writers have been withdrawn from the festival. Twenty -one session was canceled, ticket holders automatically repayment will be made.

Wright said that the festival program curated nine sessions for the La Trobe flow and that he would host the gala and closing session on the opening night and appear in a panel discussing his own book. Explaining the decision of withdrawal, Wright said that sprinkling from the festival is the result of what happened to those who were “drowning administrative morality”.
“I think that this is when art and educational institutions are not ready to stand in principle against the important pressure of the Zionist organizations and other conservative lobbyists and sales points,” he said.
Wright is also a professor of history at the University of La Trobe and a professor of public participation, and said that there should be a place for difficult conversations at the Writers Festivals and Higher Education Places.

Ita Mehrotra, a graphic novelist and artist traineer, continued its Saturday session, which is not part of the sponsored flow of La Trobe. However, since then, he has withdrawn from a market panel, sharing with the other three writers. All four of them went out and asked the festival to cancel the event.
Mehrotra said he was a deep contradictory to participate, but used the Saturday view to openly talk about the boycott with the participants.

“We need areas that allow dialogue and allow disturbing conversations… Not allowing it to be heartbreaking.
“How people think and the tone of the culture of the field. You will crush the dialogue. If things are like this, a gloomy future.”

Mehrotra added that writers and participants shared a deep feeling of disappointment about how the events emerged.
“Not in the writers, but at a university that crushes this activity,” he said.
After Bookish’s withdrawal, the store was full of customers on Saturday and many of them presented support messages.

Owners said that the festival is the biggest weekend of the year and that it was planning and extra work from its staff for months.
“This logistics nightmare, a large amount of extra work and a large financial blow to a regional small business,” he said.
“Obviously, we prefer to copy financial loss and fight against good struggle.”
La Trobe University defended his attitude by stating that he committed to encouraging a culture that values all kinds of diversity.
“The University of La Trobe does not tolerate any racism, including antisemitism and Islamophobia. La Trobe’s commitment to freedom of academic freedom and expression is consistent with our approach to creating safe environments for free ideas exchange.”
“Our anti -racist action plan, which includes the definition of work of Islamophobia, was developed with comprehensive personnel, student and community consultancy, including people with racism experience.”
On Saturday, the Bendio Municipal Assembly confirmed that 26 sessions have been progressing, including several events since the opening of the festival on Thursday.
A Council spokesman, “canceled sessions and ticket holders no longer want to participate in the ticket holders are provided refund,” he said.
“Eight more sessions are planned on Sunday. We are pleased to be able to present more than half of the festival program tomorrow afternoon.”
