Bengal Governor Ananda Bose gets death threat email; police on high alert

West Bengal Governor Ananda Bose received a death threat email on Thursday night (January 8, 2026), following which his security was tightened, a senior Lok Bhavan official said.

In the email, the sender threatened to “explode” the governor, the official added.

“The accused also mentioned his mobile number in the email. We informed the DGP and asked him to arrest this person immediately,” the official said. PTI.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was also informed.

The issue was also reported to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The state police and CRPF are working together to ensure the governor’s security, the official said.

Currently, around 60-70 central police personnel have been deployed for the protection of Mr. Bose, who enjoys Z-plus security.
