Bengal SIR deletes 61.78 lakh names; electorate drops to 7.04 crore

According to ECI sources, around 61 lakh suspicious cases have been transferred for adjudication. These voters will be able to vote only if they are approved by judges and included in additional lists.
Out of 7,04,59,284 voters, 3,60,22,642 are male voters and 3,44,35,260 are female voters. On October 27, 2025, when the SIR started and the lists were frozen, the number of male voters was 3,89,03,865 and the number of female voters was 3,77,31,887. Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal said the male-female ratio is currently 956:1000.
Agarwal appealed to voters to turn out in large numbers. “We want to convey to everyone that they should use the franchise as a festival of democracy and West Bengal should be leading in vote percentage in the country,” he said, adding that those whose names have been deleted will get 15 days to raise objections.
The total number of deletions made through Form 7 applications is 5,46,053, additions made through Form 6 and 6A applications are 1,82,036, and 6,671 corrections were made under Form 8.
After the draft was published, the number of voters became 7,08,16,630 with the deletion of 58,20,899 names.
In Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Bhabanipur Assembly constituency, the total number of voters was 1,59,201 after 2,342 names were excluded since the draft. While the overall number of write-offs in Bhabanipur in the last list was 47,111, there are 14,154 cases pending adjudication. In Nandigram Assembly constituency in East Midnapore district represented by the Leader of Opposition, the total number of names deleted in the final voter list is 10,994. Since the draft, 1,167 voters have been excluded from voting, while 8,819 cases are in the judicial stage.
