Two men sentenced to life in prison for murdering 15-year-old Cassius Turvey | Western Australia

A man who chased an indigenous young man into bushes and violently killed him with a metal pole was sentenced to life imprisonment behind bars.

Cassius Turvey, a child of Noongar Yamatji, died in the hospital on 13 October 2022 10 days after he was deliberately shot in the eastern suburbs of Perth.

24 -year -old Jack Steven James Brearley and 30 -year -old Brodie Lee Palmer were sentenced to kill the 15 -year -old child after a 12 -week hearing in May.

Each was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday, Brearley was a conditional evacuation in October 2044 and in January 2041, Palmer.

The 27 -year -old Mitchell Colin Forth, who was tried for the murder of Cassius at the Western Australian Supreme Court and guilty of killing, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for conditional release in January 2033.

Chief Justice Peter Quinlan said that the killers shortened Cassius’ life in a terrible and revengeful aggression, violence and atrocity.

“Cassius Turvey was robbed from his life and promise … Mr Brearley, all of them killed him,” he said.

Justice Quinlan had a complete regret of Brearley, and he lied while giving evidence throughout the hearing, accusing Cassius of wrong stabbing and accusing them of trying to kill an innocent man.

“Mr. Brearley, you were the person who killed Cassius Turvey in this anger and atrocity,” he said.

“Even though you don’t want to kill Cassius Turvey, your attack was insisted and continued, and stopped only with the arrival of Mr. Palmer.”

Justice Quinlan said that Palmer was not responsible for his crimes, and there were few mitigating factors to reduce his sentence.

Im You didn’t take advantage of a guilty objection … And you didn’t take advantage of a good character, ”he said.

Justice Quinlan said Forth was never the main guilty in the way of embarrassing events, but always in the background.

“You were just following the excitement of trying to be a hard man,” he said.

“And you followed Mr. Brearley to a conviction for manslaughter.”

Brearley gave the deadly blows in Cassius while someone smashed the car windows.

He chased Cassius into the bushes and hit the young man and hit his head with a metal pole and caused bleeding in his brain that caused his death.

Palmer and Forth were found at the scene and had a common purpose.
