Man, 50, arrested on suspicion of murder after body found in Bristol roof garden

A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a “much loved” man was found dead in a Bristol roof garden, police said.

Anthony Clemmings was found by a member of the public earlier this week in the roof garden of a block of flats in Redcliff Street shortly before 8.20am on Tuesday.

The 54-year-old man, known as Tony, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed on Saturday that a 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in the West Midlands on Friday.

Following the arrest, Detective Chief Inspector Laura Miller, from the major crime investigation team, said: “Our investigations into Tony’s death have been progressing well since Tuesday and an arrest has now been made.

“We have notified Tony’s family of this significant development and specially trained officers are still supporting them.

“The family continues to ask for privacy at this extremely sad time and we ask people to be respectful of their wishes.”

Earlier, Mr Clemmings’ family released a statement, saying: “Tony was a lovely man to all who truly knew him.

“He was a much loved son, brother and uncle and will be greatly missed.

“His death came as a huge shock to us and we ask for privacy as we try to come to terms with what happened.”
