Bengaluru second airport: Tender floated for feasibility, strategy report, says Minister Patil

He said Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials conducted site inspections at three shortlisted locations on the outskirts of the city and flagged various aspects, including challenges associated with these sites.
Speaking to the social media platform ‘X’, the minister said that a tender was opened to prepare a detailed strategy and feasibility report. 3-4 companies participated in the tender process, which is expected to be completed within the stipulated time.
The official added that further decisions will be made based on the reports submitted by these companies.
“After selecting three sites, we called AAI and their officials visited all three locations. They pointed out the challenges at each site. We called for a tender to overcome these problems and find solutions,” he told reporters here.
The state government had shortlisted three locations: two on Kanakapura Road near Harohalli and one on Kunigal Road in Nelamangala.
“We will move forward once the report comes with details about the challenges. Then we need to examine the feasibility of the project. This exercise is mainly aimed at addressing the challenges in these areas – rugged terrain and other issues that may be difficult to address,” Patil said. While viability is a smaller part of this phase, the minister said ultimately the state cabinet will take a decision once this process is completed.
“So it is not yet in the final stages; it is still in process and will take time. Feasibility and related studies may take three to four months or possibly more,” he added.
According to him, the proposed new airport is expected to play a significant role in meeting the rapidly growing air traffic demand in Bengaluru and safeguarding the long-term aviation and economic interests of Karnataka.
