New US security strategy aligns with Russia’s vision, Moscow says

Russia welcomes Donald Trump’s new offer US National Security Strategyhe described it as “largely consistent” with Moscow’s vision.
The 33-page document, released by the US administration last week, argues that Europe is facing the “erasure of civilization” and does not portray Russia as a threat to the US.
The report’s other priorities include tackling foreign influence, ending mass immigration and rejecting the EU’s perceived “censorship”.
Many EU officials and analysts have pushed back against the strategy, questioning its focus on freedom of expression and likening it to the language used by the Kremlin.
“The adjustments we are seeing are largely consistent with our vision,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview published Sunday by Russia’s state news agency TASS.
“We see this as a positive step.” he said, adding that Moscow would continue to review the document before drawing strong conclusions.
The strategy adopts softer language towards Russia, and EU officials worry this could weaken Moscow’s response to ending the war.
The document accuses the EU of obstructing US efforts to end the conflict and says the US must “restore strategic stability for Russia” that will “stabilize European economies”.
He appears to approve of efforts to influence policy on the continent, noting that U.S. policy should prioritize “resistance to the current course of Europe within European countries.”
The new report also calls for a restoration of “Western identity” and claims that Europe “will be unrecognizable in 20 years or less” and that its economic problems will be “eclipsed by the real and sharper prospect of civilizational demise.”
“It is far from clear whether some European countries will have strong enough economies and militaries to remain reliable allies,” the document states.
On the contrary, the document praises the influence of “patriotic European parties” and states that “America encourages its political allies in Europe to promote the revival of this spirit.”
While the EU continues negotiations with the Trump administration to sign a peace agreement in Ukraine, some officials underline its permanent relations with the United States and raise “questions” about the document.
“The USA will continue to be our most important ally” [Nato] alliance. But this alliance is focused on addressing security policy issues,” German Foreign Minister Wadephul said on Friday.
“Questions of freedom of expression or the organization of our free societies, [in the strategy]”at least as far as Germany is concerned,” he added.
In his post on social media addressed to his “American friends”, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, “Europe is not your problem, it is your closest ally” and drew attention to their “common enemy”.
“This is the only sensible strategy for our collective security. Unless something changes.”
Meanwhile, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt wrote that the document “lies to the right of the extreme right.”

Promoting an “America First” message, the strategy says the United States plans to target boats allegedly smuggling drugs in the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific Ocean, considering possible military action in Venezuela.
The US is also calling for increased defense spending from Japan, South Korea, Australia and Taiwan.
Democrats in Congress warned that the document could shake US foreign relations.
Colorado Rep. Jason Crow, who sits on the House committees that oversee intelligence and the armed forces, called the strategy “a disaster for America’s position in the world.”
Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York said it “throws away decades of values-based U.S. leadership.”
