Besides JV route, NTPC looking to set up nuclear projects on standalone basis: CMD Gurdeep Singh

New Delhi, September 14 (PTI) Power Major NTPC is part of the joint venture route and plans to establish nuclear energy projects independently.
Singh said the company has cooperated with technology providers and state governments to explore individual nuclear projects.
Currently, the installed capacity of the NTPC group is 82,926 MW (53 NTPC stations and 53 joint venture stations) from sources such as coal, liquid fuel, hydro and solar energy.
In December 2024, CMD Singh announced NTPC’s ambitious plan to enter the nuclear energy field, a movement that will increase the non -fossil portfolio of the government energy company.
By addressing a session at the Patna ‘Bihar Business Connect 2024’ summit, nuclear energy is expected to become extremely important for the energy sector for 20-30 years. NTPC is now entering the nuclear energy field.
“We are cooperating with various nuclear technology providers and state governments to establish projects,” CMD shares an update on nuclear plans. He said.
In September last year, the government approved the Nuclear Energy Company (51 percent) and NTPC (49 percent) to build, own and operate nuclear power plants according to the atomic energy action of nuclear power plants in India.
In the company document, Singh said, “We have operational the joint venture of NPCIL and Ashvin, and at the same time, we have established a new subsidiary NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam LTD as a part of our long -term commitment to clean the basic load power.” He said.
