A man was arrested for allegedly creating and distributing fake AI-generated videos and audio clips of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Friday, January 2, 2026, police said.

The accused has been identified as Pramod Kumar Raj, a resident of Bhagwanpur in Bochaha police station area, they said.

The police, in a statement, alleged that Mr. Raj edited and shared fabricated content on social media misusing the names, images and voices of the president and the Prime Minister.

“The purpose behind the content created by artificial intelligence was to mislead the public, undermine the dignity, prestige and trust of the country’s highest constitutional authorities, create distrust in democratic institutions and negatively affect social harmony, law and order,” the statement said.

A special team was formed by the regional police and the suspect was arrested. His mobile phone, which was allegedly used to create and spread fake content, was also seized.

Police noted that such fabricated materials had the potential to spread anti-national sentiments, rumors and social unrest.

They said a case has been registered and further investigation is on. They added that the defendants’ past crimes were also confirmed.
