Beyoncé, Venus Williams and Nicole Kidman to join Anna Wintour as Met Gala co-chairs | Fashion

The co-chairs of the Met Gala, which is held in New York on the first Monday of May every year, were announced as Beyoncé, Venus Williams, Nicole Kidman and, of course, Anna Wintour.

Also known as “fashion’s biggest night” or “Fashion’s Superbowl,” the event will be Beyoncé’s first appearance since 2016, when she wore Givenchy to the Met Gala themed Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology.

The co-chairs’ role is to oversee everything from interior design to catering and the guest list, as well as hospitality, possibly dressing for the performance and, most importantly, the briefing. Past co-chairs have included everyone from Zendaya to Harry Styles, Rihanna to Donatella Versace, and Lin-Manuel Miranda to Sarah Jessica Parker.

This year’s co-chairs will chair a Met Gala themed on the Art of Costume in conjunction with the Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition. The exhibition, announced last month and open to the public starting May 10, aims to explore the body and fashion in art by pairing paintings, sculptures and other objects from the Met’s collection with 200 historical and contemporary garments from the Costume Institute: Albrecht Düre’s 16th-century Adam and Eve and an ensemble by Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck; or the photograph of a corpse called La Poupeé, a Rei Kawakubo creation for Comme des Garçons.

As curator Andrew Bolton said in a press release at the time: “I wanted to focus on the centrality of the dressed body in the museum, combining artistic representations of the body with fashion as an embodied art form.”

The exhibition will be organized according to a number of thematic body types, including the naked body, the anatomical body, the aging body and the pregnant body. This will be the first exhibition in the Costume Institute’s new permanent galleries at the Met: the nearly 10,000-foot-long new Condé M Nast Galleries is named after the company’s late founder.

The theme of the exhibition, which has been interpreted by stylists and celebrities, sometimes to spectacular effect, is likely to inspire some interesting outfits at the Gala. It seems particularly likely that the newly announced co-chairs will dress naked, meditate on models, and celebrate physicality. In the past, the Met has hosted Rihanna in a so-called “omelette dress” and Diana Ross on a train so long that she needed two assistants.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos were also recently announced as the main sponsors of the 2026 Met Gala. Delving deeper into the world of fashion and sparking criticism on social media.

Yves Saint Laurent’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello and actor Zoë Kravitz will co-chair the Met Gala host committee, with additional members including Doja Cat, Sabrina Carpenter, Gwendoline Christie, Lena Dunham and Wintour’s successor at Vogue, Chloe Malle.
