Probe Stepped Up in Anasuya Online Abuse Case

Hyderabad: Stepping up its investigation into actress Anasuya Bharadwaj’s complaint regarding online harassment, the Cyberabad cybercrime police have started summoning people named in the case. On Monday, RJ Shekhar questioned Basha and recorded his statement. Police said the reports will be forwarded to others and their statements will be recorded based on the materials collected.

The actress had filed a complaint against 44 people, including producers, television journalists, social media influencers and online content creators, alleging online harassment, criminal intimidation, defamation and distribution of altered and obscene content using artificial intelligence tools.

According to the first information report (FIR) registered on January 12, the actor stated that he became the target of constant online attacks after he mentioned that women’s clothing is a matter of personal preference during a media interaction on December 20.

He claimed that his photos and videos were edited using artificial intelligence tools and turned into obscene material, and that they were spread without his consent on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and X.

He included digital evidence such as URLs and screenshots and named numerous people and accounts, but also cited numerous anonymous users and pages. A case has been registered and further investigation into the case is ongoing.
