Pinjarra Festival 2026: Day of popular festival cancelled as ‘monster’ storm descends on WA

Ahead of the WA Day long weekend, the entire day of the Pinjarra Festival has been canceled as a storm – “one of the worst” WA has seen in five years – touched down in Perth.

Parts of the state are at risk of cyclones due to a weather system set to hit WA over the weekend, with possible winds of up to 125km/h.

Up to 50 mm of rain may also fall in some areas.

The festival was scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 30 and 31, but the second day of the popular event was disrupted by the Shire of Murray after BOM forecast heavy rain and damaging winds.

“Based on this advice and briefings with emergency services, the Shire considers it necessary to prioritize the safety of stall holders, volunteers, contractors and participants,” it said in a statement.

“Although it was an extremely difficult decision to make, Shire believes it was a responsible choice.”

The festival will continue on Saturday with an art exhibition and antique and vintage fair, according to planners.

“Shire extends its sincere gratitude to everyone involved in the planning and preparation for day one of the 2026 event and thanks vendors and event sponsors for their continued support,” Shire said in the statement.

“We look forward to welcoming our community to a wonderful day on Saturday.”
