Big ‘vijay’ for TVK’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ as Madras HC orders CBFC to issue censor certificate

The Madras High Court on Friday directed the CBFC to grant U/A certificate to actor-turned-politician Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Jana Nayagan’.
The HC had on January 7 reserved its order on a petition seeking directions to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant censorship certificate to the much-awaited film under the ‘UA 16+’ category.
When the defense came up for hearing on January 6, Justice PT Asha had orally asked the CBFC to prepare a copy of the “complaint” alleging that the film “hurts religious sentiments” on January 7. The makers had stated that the film was referred for “review” after the initial recommendation for U/A certification.
Although the film’s release date was set as January 9, the Censorship Board told the court that the film could only proceed legally.

Directed by H Vinoth, “Jana Nayagan” stars Vijay, Prakash Raj, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju and other actors.
Having completed all the work, the film team sent the film to the censor on December 18.
It was later reported that the censorship board, which watched the film on December 19, recommended that some scenes be removed and some dialogues be silenced.
The petitioner film production house submitted that even after making the changes suggested by the censor board members, the censor certificate was still not issued.
