BIS officials seize 1.072 kg gold jewellery being sold without hallmark in Vijayawada

The Indian Standards Office (BIS) officials raided a Hallmarking Center and seized a false laser marking machine used to put Hallmark unique identity (HUID) and 1,072 kg gold jewelry (HUID).

BIS joint director T. Arjun, who filed a complaint about Fake Huid, held a raid on the Thursday night (on July 17, 2025 in the Srikakulam Region in Narsannapeta in Narsannaneta.

Bis Vijayawada Director Prem Sajani Patnala said, “They found a laser marking machine to mark HUID without BIS recognition,” he said.

The director said in a statement on Friday, July 18, 2025, “During the investigation, the illegal HUID activity was linked to GNR gold and diamonds in Narsannaneta. The BIS team seized gold decorations from the jewel shop,” he said.

“The BIS law, a lawsuit dated 2016, was recorded against the defendants. The crime can be sentenced to a year of imprisonment or not less than a fine of 1 Lakh,” he said.

“Consumers are required to confirm BIS logo, purity and HUID in the BIS Care mobile application by entering the HUID number that bought a gold jewel.”
