Biju Janata Dal on Saturday, December 13, 2025, targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party government, saying Mohan Majhi is the first Chief Minister to own a luxury VIP bungalow in Delhi since the formation of a separate State of Odisha.

Moreover, the regional party took strong exception to the deployment of a platoon of policemen, led by the camp commander, for the Odisha CM’s security at his bungalow in Delhi.

“The Odisha Government already has Odisha Bhavan, Odisha Niwas and Odisha Sadan in Delhi. After Odisha Bhavan was demolished for reconstruction, arrangements were made for the Prime Minister to stay in a star hotel in Delhi. But Mr. Majhi, who calls himself the ‘people’s Prime Minister’, was not content with that and opted for a VIP bungalow instead,” said BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty. A press conference on Saturday.

“As per protocol, when a CM visits Delhi, security is provided by the Delhi Police. However, questions arise if the Odisha CM does not trust the Delhi Police for his security. Instead, he opts for a detachment of Odisha Police, which comes at a huge cost to the State exchequer,” Mr. Mohanty said.

BJD spokesperson said, “Such security arrangements for a CM were never heard of before. Naveen Patnaik led an extremely simple life even after serving as CM for 24 years and never thought of buying a bungalow in Delhi by spending money from the state exchequer. Why did Mohan Majhi need this after just one and a half years as the Chief Minister? Is Odisha feeling insecure due to the intense power struggle within the BJP?” he asked. BJD spokesperson asked.

BJD also made a dig, saying that once the ‘double engine government’ is formed in Odisha, people hope that central grants and aid to the state will double.

“However, despite Mr. Majhi visiting Delhi multiple times every month, central assistance is decreasing instead of increasing. The State’s pending dues from the Center remain unpaid and the debt burden of the State has increased sharply in one and a half years,” the party said.
