BJP Backs Amaravati As Permanent Capital

: The BJP gave full support to the resolution declaring Amaravati the permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing the Assembly on Saturday, State Medical and Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said Amaravati represents unity beyond caste, religion and region. He also praised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership in the development of the capital.
He highlighted the Centre’s support for major infrastructure projects, including the 189-km Outer Ring Road and the Polavaram project, and noted that farmers have contributed around 33,000 acres to the capital.
Criticizing the previous government, he said the three capital proposals had disrupted the development of Amaravati. He reaffirmed that the BJP and its allies are committed to building Amaravati as the growth engine of the state.
Nani calls Amaravati decision ‘political drama’
Former minister Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani) criticized the government’s move on Amaravati, calling the Assembly resolution a “political drama”.
Addressing the media, he questioned the need for a special session of Parliament and a Cabinet meeting, alleging inconsistencies in the government’s stance on the capital.
Nani said YSR Congress supports Amaravati but is against what he calls corruption, mismanagement and injustice towards farmers. He called for transparency and balanced regional development.
He also raised concerns about the process by claiming that the Legislative Council was bypassed and claimed that the move could lead to further land acquisition without fulfilling previous commitments made to farmers.
He expressed concerns about financing, questioning claims that Amaravati was a self-financing project, citing borrowings, project costs and tendering processes. He warned that without inclusive planning, Amaravati may not achieve its development goals.
