Mexican Super Market Boom: According to local media reports, at least 22 people, including four children, died in a huge fire that broke out after an explosion in a store in Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora state in northern Mexico.
The explosion occurred Saturday afternoon at a downtown branch of the Waldo’s department store chain. Eyewitnesses reported that the flames quickly spread through the building and nearby parked vehicles, leaving many people trapped inside before rescue teams arrived. Emergency response teams arrived at the scene shortly after the explosion and started search and rescue efforts, and at least 12 injured people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Initial investigations show that the incident may have been caused by smoke from the faulty transformer, which led to the explosion. Officials confirmed that the injured had serious burns. Authorities in Sonora later announced that there was no evidence to suggest a terrorist attack.

The explosion follows a similar tragedy in Mexico City in September, when a gas tanker truck overturned and exploded, killing three people and injuring more than 50. According to information received from local authorities, the accident occurred at around 14.20 local time on Zaragoza Road under the Concordia Bridge. The tanker, carrying approximately 49,500 liters of fuel, caught fire after the collision, affecting 18 nearby vehicles. It was stated that 19 of the injured were in serious condition.
Authorities continue to investigate both incidents as part of broader efforts to improve safety standards in Mexico’s transportation and industrial sectors.
