BJP Will Pay Price For Attempts To Erase Legacy of Mahatma Gandhi: Telangana Cong Chief

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud said on Saturday that the BJP’s attempts to erase Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy will pay a price in the future.
Goud, who led the ruling Congress’ protest at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Secunderabad over the Centre’s replacement of MGNREGA with the VB-G RAM G Act, said Gandhiji will remain in the hearts of citizens despite attempts by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“Today, they are trying to make people forget Mahatma Gandhi, rewrite the history of the country, change the Constitution completely. Modi ji, this is a secular country. Your attempts will not succeed,” he said.
Although the opposition led by leaders of AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge protested strongly in parliament, the NDA government did not back down on its move to amend MGNREGA. He claimed that this showed that the BJP did not like Gandhiji.
He said people are watching the developments and the collapse of the BJP is inevitable in the future.
Expressing confidence that Congress will come to power at the Center in future, he said Mahatma Gandhi’s name will be brought back to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.
Goud said the BJP lost its security deposit in the last general election held in Jubilee Hills assembly constituency and failed to cross double digits in the Telangana Gram Panchayat elections, adding that the saffron party will be taught a lesson in the state in the future as well.
Many state ministers, other Congress leaders and workers participated in the protest.
Parliament on Thursday passed the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) VB-G RAM G Bill, which aims to replace the 20-year-old Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and guarantees 125 days of rural wage employment every year.
