Boat crew carries out rescue after 24-foot boat capsizes on Banana River

On Saturday, U.S. Coast Guard Station Port Canaveral boat crews rescued one person after the 24-foot boat capsized on the Banana River near Kelly Park.
The rescue effort began around noon when a Good Samaritan alerted the Coast Guard via VHF-FM channel 16 that a ship with one person on board had capsized, officials said. The Coast Guard immediately responded and rescued the person and took him to the Kelly Park Boat Ramp. No medical problems were reported.
Lt. Michelle Goebel, Jacksonville Sector search and rescue mission coordinator, praised the boat crew for their quick assistance. “The boat crew did an excellent job helping the boater get to shore quickly and safely, thanks to timely communication from a good Samaritan,” he said.
The ship owner is expected to coordinate rescue efforts following the incident.
