Bob Katter and One Nation’s Hinchinbrook result

Predictions made ahead of Saturday’s by-elections in the Hinchinbrook seat in North Queensland generally indicated that the seat would remain with Katter’s Australian Party (KAP). The LNP ran a strong campaign but the consensus was that the KAP would retain Hinchinbrook at a time when voters were interested in alternatives to the major parties.

The by-election was due to KAP’s Nick Dametto (MLA) resigning for the seat since 2017. Dametto resigned to stand for election as mayor of Townsville and won easily with 61.5% of the vote.
