Body found by police in search for missing student | UK | News

Police have found the body of what they believe to be a missing student, almost a month after he was last seen running along a spooky road.

Leicestershire Police said in a statement on Thursday, December 18, that the body they believe to be Loughborough student Aryan Sharma was found following a search of the river.

Sharma was last seen on CCTV footage from Meadow Lane on the outskirts of Loughborough at around 12.30pm on Saturday, November 22. The 20-year-old man left his home around 9.30pm and was walking towards Stanford-on-the-Soar before disappearing.

Officers from the Tactical Support Team and the National Police Air Service were deployed following a report that a body was seen in the River Soar in Normanton on the evening of Sunday 14 December.

Leicestershire Police said: “Although official identification has not yet been established, he is believed to be Aryan.”

Specialist officers continue to support Sharma’s family, who have requested privacy.

Police said a file would be prepared for HM Coroner.
