IRGC Navy leader Alireza Tangsiri behind Strait of Hormuz blockade ‘killed’ | World | News

According to reports from Israel, Revolutionary Guards Navy Commander Alireza Tangsiri was killed in the attack of the Israeli army. An Israeli official said he died in Bandar Abbas, near the Strait of Hormuz.
An official stated that the Iranian naval commander was responsible for effectively closing the Strait of Hormuz. It is currently unclear whether Tangsiri was killed in an Israeli or US attack, or under what circumstances this occurred. This news has not yet been confirmed by the Israeli military or Iranian officials.
Born in 1962, Tangsiri served as a naval brigade commander during the Iran-Iraq War. Tangsiri had consistently supported a strong Iranian naval posture and strongly defended Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz.
He has previously said all ships must get permission from Iranian authorities before crossing and warned foreign warships to stay away.
He reportedly ordered the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and the Strait of Hormuz has remained effectively closed since the start of Operation Epic Rage on February 28.
Last week, he threatened that US facilities in the region would “come under full force fire” and warned locals and vigilantes to stay away.
Tangsiri said at the time: “Our target list has been updated. American oil facilities are now on the same level as American bases and will be under fire with full force.”
In September 2007, Tangsiri warned that if the United States “conflicts with us, we will chase them into the Gulf of Mexico.”
Six years later in 2013, he said, “Israelis are Jews, Americans are Christians. Our Quran emphasizes that they are not our friends.”
