BRS Concerned over Allotment of Car-Like Symbols to Independents

Hyderabad: The returning officer (RO) on Sunday announced the names of the symbols allotted to candidates in the November 11 Jubilee Hills Assembly election poll. The list includes the names ‘ship’, ‘satellite dish’, ‘chapati roll’ and ‘soap dish’. The BRS had previously unsuccessfully complained that symbols resembling its ‘car’ had cost it votes in successive elections.
Shaik Rafath Jahan was allocated a ship symbol to All India Majlis-e-Inquilab-E-Millat. Independent Andrapu Sudharshan was given ‘helmet’ symbol, Kandadi Manoipal Reddy was given ‘dolli’, Junad Anam Siddiqui was given ‘dish dish’, Chepuri Raju was given ‘road roller’, Amboju Buddaiah was given ‘chapati roller’ and Abhilash Bethi was given ‘soap dish’ symbol.
BRS leaders expressed concern about the symbols and planned to draw the returning officer’s attention to the issue. The actual shape of the symbols has not been revealed so far.
BRS filed a complaint with the Election Commission on the issue and requested that symbols resembling the party’s ‘car’ not be allocated in previous elections. The party had earlier approached the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court on the issue but was unsuccessful.
