Boy, 15, to remain behind bars over Christmas after allegedly murdering fellow teenager in Sydney | New South Wales

A 15-year-old boy accused of stabbing a fellow teenager to death near a Sydney high school will spend Christmas behind bars.
The victim, a 17-year-old boy, died from a stab wound to his thigh following a confrontation in a park in Sydney’s northwest at around 4.20pm on Monday.
About three hours later, the little boy arrived at the police station with his parents and was subsequently charged with murder.
The 15-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared in juvenile court on Tuesday morning.

He sat quietly in the courtroom, wearing a black hoodie and a mullet haircut with shaved sides.
Police asked the court for an order to take forensic evidence, including a DNA sample, from the teenager.
A court order was needed to obtain DNA evidence from an accused teenager because they were not considered to have the capacity to give informed consent.
The defendant did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody for eight weeks as the case had to return to court.
Police claimed the stabbing occurred in broad daylight, near several schools and in view of many people walking nearby.
Authorities remained at the scene Tuesday as locals laid flowers in memory of the slain teenager.
Police said those involved in Monday’s shooting were not from the nearby high school and officers believe it was not a random attack.
Many female witnesses who were in the park at that time rushed to the victim’s aid. Medical teams were called, but the young man died a short time later.
“This would have been a terribly challenging situation for these people and I can only praise them for their efforts,” Det Supt Naomi Moore told reporters.

“I am deeply saddened by the death of a young boy in Rouse Hill and offer my sincerest condolences to his family and friends,” he said. “This is an unimaginable loss and its impact will be felt by the entire community,” he said.
Local federal MP Michelle Rowland said she was deeply saddened by the incident.
“There is no place for these in our society” [alleged] “They are senseless acts of violence and I know this news will be particularly distressing for local families.”
The accused murderer was scheduled to return to court on January 23.
