Boy fights for life after shark attack at popular beach

A child is fighting for his life after being attacked by a shark at a popular Sydney beach.

Emergency services were called to Vaucluse, in the east of the city, after reports of a shark attack at around 16.20 on Sunday.

Police said the boy, believed to be around 12 years old, was treated for serious leg injuries by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and other first responders at the scene.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the man, who was in a critical condition, was later transported by road to Sydney Children’s Hospital.

The incident occurred near Nielsen Park and Shark Beach, a popular family swimming spot with a netted area on Sydney Harbour.

The beach was closed and swimmers were advised to avoid entering the water.
