Brady Tkachuk bloodied, given misconduct penalty in NHL return with Senators

Tkachuk is already in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after winning a gold medal with Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and the following controversy surrounding the White House’s TikTok video.
In the second period, Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson stepped on Brady Tkachuk across the boards, and Tkachuk’s own stick hit him in the face, leaving him covered in blood. Edvinsson was given a two-minute interference penalty and a five-minute fighting major after Ottawa forward Dylan Cozens intervened to defend his teammate.

Tkachuk was also given a 10-minute misconduct penalty for tweeting at Edvinsson after the pair reached the box. The argument continued while both players were serving their suspensions.
The game capped off a busy day for Tkachuk, who was making his first NHL appearance since returning from the Olympics. Earlier, he spoke to reporters after practice about his gold medal experience and addressed a White House TikTok video in which his voice was dubbed using artificial intelligence to appear as if he were insulting Canadians.
Tkachuk distanced himself from the video, saying it was fabricated. “This is obviously fake because it’s not my voice and my lips aren’t moving.” He added, “That’s not my voice. That’s not what I say. I would never say that. That’s not who I am. So I guess I didn’t like that video.”
Tkachuk, an Arizona native, spent his entire NHL career with the Ottawa Senators and returned from Italy this week with other members of the U.S. Olympic team as the NHL schedule restarts.
