Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at Hyderabad House in the national capital today.

Earlier today, a ceremonial welcome was held at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan for Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is on an official visit to India. President Lula was given the Guard of Honor at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Brazilian President was received by Prime Minister Modi and President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

President Lula also met with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.

On Friday, President Lula inaugurated the first office of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex) in New Delhi. Sharing the details in a post on X, he said it would promote Brazilian products and services abroad and attract foreign investments to strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy.

Brazil’s ambassador to India Kenneth da Nobrega on Friday appreciated the efforts of the Government of India in organizing the AI ​​Impact Summit 2026. He also said that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is on an official visit to India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi share very good chemistry and they are not just colleagues but also friends.

Talking about the growing closeness between President Lula and Prime Minister Modi, he said: “This takes bilateral relations to a historically new level. There is very good chemistry. I think they have become not just colleagues, but more and more friends. That is a fact.”

“This is a historic peak in the Global South and Prime Minister Modi is really trying to engage the Global South in this fundamental new wave of technology, which is artificial intelligence, that will change our lives,” the Brazilian ambassador to India said.

Brazil’s ambassador to India said, “President Lula came to India with the largest delegation ever, including more than 11 cabinet ministers, including 50 CEOs, and more than 300 businessmen. This takes bilateral relations to a historically new level.” he said.

Lula’s visit to India follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Brasilia in July 2025, the first visit by an Indian prime minister in more than 50 years.
The Brazilian President arrived in India along with a large delegation of senior CEOs of Brazilian companies. CEOs are expected to attend a Business Forum.
