Brisbane radio star Robin Bailey opens up on social media after shock KIIS 97.3 breakfast show axing

In a harrowing social media post, radio star Robin Bailey has revealed the shocking end of her popular show Robin&Kip with Corey Oates, citing an industry she says is more about “money than connections”.

Bailey and fellow presenters Kip Wightman and Oates lost the Brisbane breakfast show on KIIS 97.3 last Thursday, with Bailey writing that seven people were caught in the shock cull.

“Seven wonderful, talented, kind and compassionate people lost their jobs last Thursday,” he said on Instagram Sunday.

“Our industry cares more about money than connection.

“But we’re here for the next eight weeks and I know this could be my last commercial radio job, so after 35 years I desperately want to come out on top and be number one!

“So we’ll be covering it all tomorrow at 8.20pm on KIIS 97.3 Brisbane but please support us!”

KIIS 97.3 will soon launch “a new, lively and local breakfast show that is bold, entertaining and fast-paced” and the new line-up will be announced next week, a company spokesperson said in a statement.

“We’d like to thank Robin, Kip, Corey and the entire team for their hard work, creativity and dedication to the Brisbane audience on and off air,” the spokesperson said.

“Their contribution was significant and will be celebrated in the coming weeks.

“In 2026 KIIS 97.3 will launch a new, vibrant and local breakfast show that is bold, entertaining and fast-paced.

“The new show will be officially announced at ARN’s Upfronts event next Wednesday.”

The trio delivered solid ratings for ARN, capturing around 10 per cent of breakfast audiences according to the latest GfK radio survey.

Bailey said he wants to go out with a bang for his final eight weeks.

“I want to leave the highest peak as number one and I know we did our best and did our best to have fun and connect with a city we all love,” he said.

“Thank you Brissy, I owe you so much!”

ARN Media is a publicly traded company with a market capitalization of approximately $170 million.

The company reported revenue of $142.3 million in the six months to June 30, down 7 percent on the previous year.

Meanwhile, net profit fell 89 percent to $800,000.
