Police cars and an ambulance were seen on the track.
The United Airlines flight took off from London airport at 12:23 p.m. and was headed for San Francisco when flight tracking data showed it returning near Milton Keynes.
The Boeing 777-200 appears to have stopped climbing to 15,000 ft before returning. United Airlines told Air Live that its maintenance team had to assess a technical issue on the plane before a new takeoff. The plane was escorted to the gate by three fire trucks.
