Charlotte increases lead as North Carolina’s largest city; Huntersville surpasses prominent college town
(Queen CITY NEWS)-According to new population data, Charlotte added the most people among all cities in the state between 2020-24 and continued to be the largest in North Carolina with more than 400,000 people.
The State Budget and Management Office announced the population changes of municipalities last week on 1 July 2024. Queen City reached 944,742 people with an increase of 8 percent compared to April 2020.

According to the population scientist data of the state, Raleigh is still the second largest city by leaving half a million residents in these decades. The City of Oaks also grew rapidly by 7 percent.
Among the other fastest growing municipalities in the region is Concord, which reached 115 thousand 53 percent with an increase of 9.2 percent and Huntersville, who left behind Chapel Hill with a population of 66 thousand 955 with a 95 percent increase.

The Southern Iredell district was overflowing with people in these decades. Mooresville increased from 50,000 people to 59,500 with a growth of 18 percent, and the number of Troutman in the north increased by 75 percent to 6,600.
In addition to Charlotte and Raleigh, five of the largest municipalities with a population growth were in the triangle regions.
Union County once again experienced a strong growth. Monroe 13.4 percent, Indian Trail 12.3 percent, Waxhaw 17.5 percent, Weddington 11.9 percent and Wingate in the east grew by 14 percent.
The Demographic reported that there have been significant increases in Wilmington (+11,000) and nearby Laland (+10.000), as well as (+10,000) beyond the triangle.
Between July 1, 2023 and July 1, 2024, the municipal population increased by 1.8 percent. During this period, 87 percent of North Carolina municipalities took place in a population increase.
In many towns in the east of the QCN imaging area, there was a loss of population. Rockingham and Hamlet fell 1.9 percent, Polkton 15.6 percent and Wadesboro 0.01 percent, ie six people fell.
The northeast part of the state (east of I-95, north of the US 64) witnessed the most common population loss.
