British soldier killed in ‘accident’ in Ukraine named | UK | News

The name of a British soldier killed in the line of duty in Ukraine on Tuesday has been revealed by the Ministry of Defence. Parachute Regiment member Lance Corporal George Hooley died in a “tragic accident”, aged 28.

“Our thoughts are with Lance Corporal Hooley’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”

Yesterday, the Ministry of Defense announced with “deep sadness” that a member of the UK Armed Forces had died after being injured in a “tragic accident” that occurred “away from the front line”.

The soldier was “observing Ukrainian forces testing a new defensive capability” at the time of the incident.

Tributes to the soldier began pouring in on Tuesday, with Defense Secretary John Healey saying he was “devastated” by the news.

He said: “Lance Corporal Hooley was injured in a tragic accident away from the front line while observing Ukrainian forces testing a new defensive capability.

“His life was full of courage and determination. He served our country with honor and distinction around the world in the cause of freedom and democracy, including as part of a small number of British staff in Ukraine.”
