British tourist dies two months after being ‘kicked in the head’ in Dublin city centre

A British tourist who was allegedly kicked in the head in Dublin city center has died two months later.
The British man, aged in his early 40s, was taken to hospital following reports of a ‘serious attack’ in the Temple Bar Square area of the Irish capital in the early hours of 21 August.
He was treated at Beaumont Hospital in the north of the city and later fell into a coma before being flown back to the UK.
A Garda spokesman said the man died in England on Saturday.
Darragh O’Brien, 22, was arrested and charged with assault causing harm in connection with the incident. He is currently in the courts and has not yet entered a plea.
Allegedly, the tourist was kicked in the head by Mr O’Brien at around 12.30pm after the pair got into a verbal argument.
Irish Times The court heard a physical altercation ensued following the fight, during which Mr O’Brien allegedly kicked the British man four times, one of which hit him in the belly.
The tourist then allegedly kicked him in the head and was knocked unconscious after hitting the ground.
The British man was taken to hospital following reports of a ‘serious assault’ in the Temple Bar Square area of Dublin on 21 August (a general view of the area is pictured).
Garda said: ‘The man (aged in his 40s), who was injured following a serious assault in Temple Bar on 21 August 2025, passed away in England on Saturday 25 October 2025.
‘As this matter is currently before the courts, this office will not be providing any further information.’
The force said at the time of the alleged attack: ‘Gardaí of Pearse Street are appealing for witnesses in relation to a serious assault that occurred in the Temple Bar Square area of Dublin 2 in the early hours of the morning of Thursday 21 August 2025.
‘Gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident at around 12.30pm.
‘A man in his 40s was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
‘The scene has been preserved and the technical investigation has been completed.’
