Britney Spears calls claims in Kevin Federline’s memoir ‘extremely hurtful’ | Britney Spears

Britney Spears has responded to ex-husband Kevin Federline’s claims about their marriage in his upcoming memoir, calling his portrayal of her “extremely hurtful and exhausting.”

In So You Thought You Knew, Federline details his two-year marriage to Spears and their divorce in 2007; What followed was a protracted fight over custody of their two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

In the book, Federline claims that she witnessed Spears using cocaine while breastfeeding and that she sometimes acted erratically around her children. In an excerpt published by New York TimesFederline said their son “sometimes wakes up at night and finds him standing quietly in the doorway, watching them sleep — ‘Oh, are you awake?’ – with a knife in his hand. Then he would turn around and walk away without explanation.

Federline told the New York Times that he had not spoken to Spears in years, but learned of her alleged behavior from his two sons.

Federline also writes in the book about Spears’ conservatorship, in which her father controlled her life and finances from 2008 to 2021. The edit prompted Spears’ fans to form the #FreeBritney movement to restore Spears’ independence.

Although the #FreeBritney movement “started from a good place,” Federline writes in the book, “All the people who put so much effort into this must now put the same energy into the ‘Free Britney’ movement. Because this is no longer about freedom. This is about survival.”

“Britney’s situation feels like she’s hurtling toward something irreversible,” he writes. “It has become impossible to pretend that everything is fine. From where I sit, the clock is ticking and we are approaching the 11th hour. If things do not change, something bad will happen and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left in the hands of the stones.”

On Wednesday, Spears spoke out against Federline’s portrayal in a statement on social media.

The eight-time Grammy winner wrote of X: “My ex-husband’s constant gaslighting is extremely hurtful and exhausting.” “I always begged and screamed to have a life with my sons.”

She said she felt “demoralized by this situation” and that she had rarely seen her sons, who are now 19 and 20 years old, in recent years.

“Relationships with teenage boys are complicated,” he wrote. “They need to take responsibility for themselves. One of my sons has only visited me for 45 minutes in the last five years, and the other has only visited me four times in the last five years. I have pride, too. From now on, when I am available, I will let them know.”

“Trust me, those white lies in that book go straight to the bank, and the only person who is really hurting here is me,” he added.

He said he had lived a “sacred and special life” since his release from the conservatory.

A spokesperson for the pop star told the New York Times in an earlier statement: “With the news of Kevin’s book boom, she and others are once again profiting off of him, and unfortunately this comes after her alimony with Kevin ended. All she cares about is her children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensation. She detailed her journey in her memoir.”

In Spears’ 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, the pop star claimed that during their custody battle, Federline “tried to convince everyone that I was completely out of control.”
