BRS Boycotts Telangana Assembly Alleging Speaker’s Bias

Hyderabad: Accusing Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar of bias, the main opposition BRS on Friday announced boycott of the ongoing winter session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly.

Senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao also alleged that the Congress government was running the assembly “unilaterally” and the BRS voice was “muted”.

According to him, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar took a “biased stance” by saying that BRS members should not criticize Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

“He (Speaker) says he will not allow me to use the microphone to talk about the Prime Minister. Then what is the point of attending the meeting? BRS has decided to boycott this meeting session against the biased attitude of the Speaker. The Speaker needs to ensure equal rights to everyone in the House,” said Harish Rao, deputy leader of BRS in the House.

Harish Rao, nephew of BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, said that BRS chose to boycott the session in protest against the “one-sided” functioning of the House and the Speaker’s attitude.

Targeting Revanth Reddy, he alleged that the CM used “bad language” to attack BRS on the floor of the Assembly.

Although the opposition party wanted to protest the CM’s statements, it was not given the right to speak and claimed that the assembly was run like a “Congress office”.

BRS members marched on Friday to protest what Rao described as the “one-sided functioning” of the House of Representatives.

Stating that it would not be wrong even if Revanth Reddy, BRS chief KCR and Harish Rao were “hanged” for causing “greater injustice” to Telangana in irrigation projects, Harish Rao condemned the CM’s remarks.

He also accused Revanth Reddy of speaking like a “belligerent element”.

“Rahul Gandhi carries the Constitution in his hand. But democracy is being murdered in the parliament. The main opposition is not given a microphone,” he said.

Harish Rao also alleged that Revanth Reddy imposed “RR tax per square meter” on construction permits and even “set a price for corruption”.
