The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance swept the polls in 29 municipal corporation elections as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis claimed victory in 25 of the 29 bodies.

According to the latest figures, BJP was the largest party in Mumbai with 89 seats. While Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) won 65 seats, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena won 29 seats and the Congress won 24 seats.

On Friday, January 17, 2026, Mr. Shinde thanked voters for Mahayuti’s stellar performance in the polls and said the decision was a firm endorsement of the State government’s development agenda.

“The Shiv Sena-BJP alliance has won a decisive mandate not only in Thane but also in Mumbai and other civic bodies. The mayor in Mumbai and municipal corporations across the state will be from Mahayuti. The election results reflect a pro-Mahayuti atmosphere across Maharashtra,” he said.
