Buckingham Palace makes major announcement about huge royal event | Royal | News

Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles and Queen Camilla will host the Nigerian President on an official visit at Windsor Castle in March.

This will be the first state visit by a Nigerian president to the UK in 37 years and the first state visit the King will receive in 2026.

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife Oluremi Tinubu accepted the invitation to visit which will take place between 18 March and 19 March.

The last time a Nigerian head of state visited the UK was in 1989, with two further official visits in 1981 and 1973.

While Prince of Wales, Charles visited Nigeria four times in 1990, 1999, 2006 and 2018.

The then Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, joined him on the trip in 2018.

Mr Tinubu was received by the King at Buckingham Palace in September 2024.

The two men also attended a bilateral meeting at a hotel in Dubai as they attend the COP28 summit in 2023.

The palace said full details of the event will be announced in due course.

The last state visit to the UK took place in December, when the King and Queen welcomed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender.

The state visit was also held at Windsor Castle due to renovations at Buckingham Palace.
