‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ star Nicholas Brendon dies at 54, family says

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star Nicholas Brendon passed away on Friday, March 20, at the age of 54.
His family confirmed his death in a statement. Hollywood Reporter“We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon,” she told the outlet.
“He died of natural causes in his sleep,” the statement said. “Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and the characters he has brought to life over the years. In recent years, Nicky found his passion in painting and art. Nicky loved sharing his exuberant talent with his family, friends and fans. He was passionate, sensitive and had an endless passion for creating.”
The statement continues: “Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was. While it was no secret that Nicholas had struggled in the past, he was receiving medication and treatment to correct his diagnosis and was optimistic about the future at the time of his passing.”

They concluded their statement by “requesting privacy at this time” from the public while taking time to “grieve his loss and celebrate the life of a man who lived with intensity, imagination and heart.”
“Thank you to everyone who has shown love and support,” they concluded.
In a post on his Instagram account in 2022, it was shared with fans that the actor was hospitalized after a heart attack and was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.

He later shared in a 2023 Instagram post that he suffered a heart attack and underwent multiple spine surgeries. The actor previously revealed that he was diagnosed with cauda equina syndrome. Brendon broke into the entertainment industry by portraying Xander Harris on all seven seasons of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” from 1997 to 2003.
During this time, the artist also appeared in films such as “Psycho Beach Party”, “Hard Ground” and “Survivor Island”, and later appeared in popular TV programs such as “Private Practice” and “Criminal Minds”.

“I love how so many of you are connecting with the show and the characters,” she wrote on Instagram on “Buffy’s” 25th anniversary. “And despite some bittersweet memories, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to play Xander and the opportunity it gave me to meet so many of you.”
Brendon struggled with substance abuse and mental health in his 30s and was arrested several times for felonies.
