Bushfire emergency unfolding in High Wycombe
The eastern suburb of High Wycombe is currently experiencing a bushfire emergency; residents were told they were in danger and needed to take immediate action to survive.
The Department of Emergency Services has issued an alert for people in the area bounded by Brand Road, Sultana Road and Roe Highway.
There are dangers to life and home.
A ‘leave now’ warning has also been activated for parts of nearby Maida Vale, bounded by Maida Vale Road, Myerson Crescent and Darter Road (including Tree Fern Green).
In High Wycombe, authorities said it was too late to leave.
“The fire has affected evacuation routes and leaving now will put your life in danger,” they said.
“You need to determine a room in your house where you can be protected from an approaching fire. It should have running water, such as the kitchen or laundry, and its exit should be open so that you can escape easily.
“You must take shelter before the fire comes, because the extreme heat will kill you before the flames reach you.”
The fire is moving towards the east and cannot be controlled.
Roe Highway is closed between Berkshire Road and Kalamunda Road.
Aerial support was sent to assist ground crews.
More to come.
