Cabinet approves India’s 2030 CWG bid, says Ahmedabad ideal host with world-class stadiums
Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the union cabinet approved the offer of Ahmedabad as a “ideal” venue on 27 August 2025 Wednesday.
The decision comes days later after the approval of the proposal after the ‘interest statement’ was presented in March of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
“Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, headed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved the offer of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for the submission of the League of Nations (CWG) 2030.”

“In addition, in addition to the necessary guarantees of the ministries, departments and authorities, the Gujarat Government has approved the host Cooperation Agreement (HCA) with guarantees regarding the sanction of the required grant.”
August 31 is the deadline for the event, and IOA is expected to complete formalities within the next 48 hours. India last hosted CWG in 2010.
The General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport will decide on the host country in Glasgow in the last week of November. Canada, referring to budget restrictions, with withdrawal from the race, India’s activity shone the chance to bag.
The PIB statement after the cabinet meeting said that Ahmedabad would be the ideal host city for games.
“Ahmedabad is an ideal host city that offers world -class stadiums, the latest educational facilities and a passionate sports culture. The world’s largest stadium Narendra Modi Stadium has already shown its ability to successfully accommodate the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup final.”
India also aims to carry out the 2036 Olympic games, and for this, Ahmedabad is a host city as a pioneer. The sports infrastructure of the city is raised with this ambition.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Spor Enclave is currently under construction and is designed to host two arena for indoor sports with a water sports center and a football stadium, except for Narendra Modi Kriket Stadium.
Athletes from 72 countries join Commonwealth Games and think that the government will “benefit from local businesses and earn income”.
“Beyond sports, hosting the CWG in India would have a lasting impact, increase tourism, create business, and inspire millions of young athletes.
“Apart from that, many professional sports sciences, activity operations and management, logistics and transportation coordinators, publications and media, IT and communication, public relations and communication and other fields will also get opportunities.” He said.
Will encourage national pride
The government thinks that having such a “global prestigious event” will encourage a strong sense of national pride and unity.
“It will provide a shared national experience and will increase the morale of our nation. It will encourage new generation athletes to enter sports as a career option and participate in sports at all levels.”
Detailed staff planned for 2030
The 2026 CWG in Glasgow was largely scaled to prevent overcoming the budget. As a result, some major disciplines such as wrestling, shooting, badminton and hockey were excluded from the squad.
However, IOA clearly stated that 2030 games will have a detailed staff with all the disciplines left by Glasgow if it is done in India.
“Our traditional sports such as Plan, Kabaddi and Kho Kho should have been there.”
