Alejandro Garnacho: Is former Man Utd star back to his best at Chelsea?

Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho started slowly but started to show the form that had previously excited Manchester United fans.

The 21-year-old Argentinian player made two assists in the match they beat Wolves 3-0 on Saturday, scoring Malo Gusto’s first goal and Pedro Neto’s third goal, while Joao Pedro scored the other goal.

Garnacho made two assists in the same match for the first time in the Premier League, and this achievement was his 99th match in the tournament.

However, it took time for Garnacho, who was under a cloud at Old Trafford, to play so well for Chelsea.

Garnacho was banished to the so-called ‘bomb squad’ by United manager Ruben Amorim and talks with Chelsea dragged on before his £40 million move was finalized in the final days of the summer transfer window.

A lack of competitive action left Garnacho suffering from a lack of fitness upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge, and he failed to score or assist in his first six games.

However, Garnacho is currently scoring goals with two goals and two assists in his last four games.

Asked about Garnacho after the match, Maresca said: “He has been open-minded since we started. He struggled a little last season, then he got better and better. Garnacho was very good on the left wing.”

The advice given to Garnacho, who was getting the best form from the young player, was simple.

His future at Chelsea depends on him sticking with it.

“Work hard; that was the main message when he joined us,” Maresca said. “We know he is good in terms of ball quality; he needs to work hard to play for us.

“He does a good job with the ball, but he also works hard without the ball.”
