Tension is suspected between Clark and Reese dating back to their encounter in the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship game.
Reese taunted Clark by pointing his ring finger during the game, which sparked outrage and sparked an ongoing brawl among fans.
Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes took revenge on Reese’s LSU Tigers in the Elite Eight a year later, but the tension reached a whole new level when the players reached the pros during their rookie WNBA seasons.

In her first WNBA season, Clark received a number of questionable fouls from Reese’s Sky throughout the 2024 season, including a foul from Reese on June 16.
In 2025, the two got into a heated argument after Reese pushed Fever forward Natasha Howard from behind after grabbing an offensive rebound from teammate Rebecca Allen’s miss. Reese brought the ball down and Clark fouled him before he could shoot. Reese fell place.
Reese got up from the floor and came down on Clark’s face.
The referees reviewed the play and determined that Clark used his left hand to push Reese to the ground. They upgraded the personal foul against Clark to a flagrant foul. And the Fever’s Reese and Aliyah Boston were given technical fouls.

“There was nothing malicious about it, just a good foul,” Clark told ESPN’s Holly Rowe.
Now, the two stars are teammates for the United States trying to qualify for the FIBA World Cup, but fans can probably still feel the awkward dynamic between them.
