Xi Meets Maldives President Muizzu

Tianjin: Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday and called for the deepening of binary bonds with the effective implementation of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The two leaders met on the sides of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held on Sunday.
Maldives are the dialogue partner of the 10 -member SCO block.
Xi told Muizzu that the two countries have made positive progress in the cooperation of the two countries, and that China will continue to deepen practical cooperation with Maldives to ensure the effective implementation of the China-Maldives FTA.
He said that both countries should advance cooperation in fields such as fishing, marine scientific research, environmental protection, disaster prevention and reduction.
Muizzu said that Maldives are willing to work with China to expand their cooperation in fields such as trade, investment, housing construction and tourism and to strengthen coordination and cooperation in multilateral mechanisms, including the Xinhua News Agency managed by the state.
This is Muizzu’s second visit to China.
Shortly after the election campaign, he visited China in January last year and pushed a ‘India’ agenda of Indian staff’s helicopter medical services and Dornier maritime surveillance aircraft.
In the following months, it normalized relations with India after replacing the new Delhi crew with civilians and providing significant economic assistance to help Maldives get rid of the forex crisis.
Muizzu visited India in June to attend the profanity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
