California lawyer stalked, killed ex-girlfriend in front her children

A Northern California judge sentenced a 51-year-old man to 95 years in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend, a 30-year-old woman, in front of her children in 2017, authorities said late last week.

On April 3, 2017, Rashanda Franklin, 30, called police to report that her ex-boyfriend, then-43-year-old Attorney Dushan McBride, was following her at her home in Richmond, about 12 miles north of Oakland.

When officers arrived, they found McBride trying to break into his home.

Franklin told police that he had repeatedly harassed and stalked her and her children at KTLA’s sister station since she recently ended her nearly two-year relationship with McBride. KRON reported. Officers from the Richmond Police Department took a report and left the home. McBride killed Franklin less than 24 hours later.

The 30-year-old man took his children to school the morning after calling the police about his ex-boyfriend.

Franklin saw McBride’s vehicle in the parking lot of the church where the children attended school and realized he was following them. She called 911 as her ex followed her in his Mercedes and sped away with her children. SFGATE reported.

McBride intercepted Franklin at the intersection of Rheem Boulevard and 29th Street. This On Street, he exited his vehicle and approached hers during a confrontation recorded in the 911 call. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office said:.

“I have kids in the car,” Franklin was heard saying.

McBride responded, “I’m not playing with you,” before fatally shooting him in the torso.

The 30-year-old mother bled to death behind the wheel of the car with her two children in the backseat.

McBride fled the scene. About a week after the cold-blooded murder, he was eventually found at a fast-food restaurant in Sacramento.

Franklin’s family members criticized the Richmond Police Department’s response to his call the night before he was killed, according to SFGATE. A former captain in the agency went so far as to say: “Everything I know about this incident indicates that we did not help him enough.”

In addition to murder, McBride was also convicted and convicted of shooting into an occupied vehicle, stalking, and using a firearm to cause death.

“This tragic case underscores the devastating reality of domestic violence that claims the lives of so many. While no verdict can bring back a mother who was taken from her children in such a senseless act of violence, this sentence provides a measure of justice and accountability for the victim’s family,” said Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton. “It also sends a clear message that stalking and harassment are warning signs that should be taken seriously and that those who commit such violence will be held accountable under the law.”
