Senior royal steps down from role due to ill health | Royal | News

It has been reported that 89-year-old Princess Alexandra has resigned from her position as Deputy Patron of the Royal Overseas League due to poor health. The Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) was founded in 1910 with the vision of one Sir Evelyn Wrench to create a home in London for international co-operation, culture and conversation.

@Gertsroyals wrote about X: “Princess Alexandra has resigned as assistant boss of the Royal Overseas League. (Retired from official duties due to health and mobility reasons.)”

As the Royal Over-Seas League website explains, royal patronage “highlights the vital work of these organizations and enables their many achievements and valuable contributions to society to be more widely recognized and promoted.”

The website also stated in November 2025: “Additional Princess Alexandra is stepping down as Deputy Patron of the Royal Overseas League after 25 years of dedicated service. We are sincerely grateful for her long-standing dedication and commitment.”

The statement continued: “We are delighted to announce that Vice-Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence GCVO CB has graciously accepted the position of Deputy Patron, an honor for the Royal Overseas League. Sir Timothy’s distinguished career and commitment to public service are exemplary.”

The Royal Over-Seas League website says: “Non-partisan and welcoming women since before suffrage, ROSL was granted a Royal Charter in 1922 to maintain this spirit of international friendship and to inspire our continuing work.

“This desire has shaped the identity and purpose of the organization since its founding and remains at the heart of everything we do today.”

Today, King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the Royal Family maintain active connections with more than 1,000 charities, military organizations and public service organizations across the United Kingdom and Commonwealth.
