Cambodia, Thailand agree ceasefire after days of deadly clashes

Singapore: The leaders of Cambodia and Thailand agreed to make a ceasefire after a five -day fight that claims to be at least 35 lives, including civilians and displaced more than 100,000 people on both sides of the controversial border areas.

US President Donald Trump is likely to claim that the ceasefire will be claimed as a personal diplomatic victory after telephone calls with both ministers about the management of hostilities on both ministers at the weekend.

While the fight continued in the border states on Monday – one day after Trump’s demands to stop – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai flew to the neutral ground of Malaysia, President of the Southeast Asian International Association.

Almost two hours after Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s residence in Kuala Lumpur, they emerged after a “emergency and unconditional” ceasefire.

Both countries accused the other for a fight that began on Thursday after a border clash that enabled a Cambodian soldier to die on May 28th.

Thailand accused Cambodia of violating Geneva contracts by firing heavy artillery to non -military targets and killing civilians, including children.

Cambodia rejected the claim and returned with allegations that Thailand had dropped illegal cluster bombs. Thailand said it was not a party to the congress covering cluster ammunition.

The disagreement, which is a very generation of roots in the colonial period mapping, focuses on the ownership of various ancient temples and strategic areas along the uncertain parts of the 800 -kilometer border.
