Cambridge Dali painting bought for £150 could fetch £30K
Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali is expected to go up to £ 30,000 after being purchased only for £ 150.
It was found in a house in Cambridge and has been original since then.
An anonymous art seller bought and the mixed media piece will be available in an auction in October.
“It is a real honor to realize a real rediscovery of a work that is one of the most famous artists in the world and a baptism father of surrealism.”
The art seller, who bought the track, discovered that in the 1990s, Sotheby’s was completely offered to Dali.
Downie said: “In the modern art world, a loss of reference is very rare.
He said: “It was an exciting process for research and the authentication of this picture, and this is a proof of important art knowledge that he could detect in the sale of a house cleaning.
“Although Dali’s work is often some of the most well -known ones, this is an unusual piece that shows a different part of its application while working on watercolor.”
In 2023, a Cambridge House was discovered in the retaining sale of Vecchio Sultano.
The image made with watercolor paint and felt hint is an example of a scene from Arab nights, a series of 500 pieces in which Dali intends to create the Middle East folk tales assigned by wealthy Italian couple Giuseppe and Mara Sabetto.
Downie said that the couple aimed to assign Dali to show a Bible in 1963, but after the artist’s insistence, he showed a collection of the Middle East folktals from 1.001 nights.
Dali is thought to have completed only 100 of the 500 works aimed before the project was abandoned.
“Half of these 100 remained in Rizzoli publishing house and was damaged or disappeared – the other 50 remained with Albaretos, and then inherited by Christina, who was Dali’s baptism daughter.” He said.
He continued: “This is probably the work in question, the publishers and then lost from the 50 party came.”
Dali expert Nicolas Descharnes has been authentically certified and pre -sales estimated £ 20,000 to £ 30,000.
Figure will be available on October 23 by Cheffins.
