Cambridge: Multiple people stabbed on British train, two arrested

“Several people” were stabbed on a train near Cambridge and two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

In a statement to X, British Transport Police said officers were “currently responding to an incident on a train bound for Huntingdon in which multiple people were stabbed.”

Local police force Cambridgeshire Constabulary said armed police attended after officers were called to Huntingdon station at 7.39pm on Saturday (6.39am AEDT on Sunday).

Huntingdon station is approximately 120 km north of London.

“Officers are stationed at @CambsCops and two people have been arrested.”

In a statement on Facebook, Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: “At 7.39pm we were called to reports of multiple stabbings on a train.

“Armed officers attended the scene and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two people were arrested. A number of people were taken to hospital.

“The incident is ongoing and the A1307 is closed as you approach the city centre.”

National Rail said Huntingdon Station was closed and all lines were closed.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the incident was “deeply worrying” and urged people to follow police advice.

“The horrific incident on a train near Huntingdon is extremely worrying,” he told X.

“My thoughts are with everyone affected and I would like to thank the emergency services for their response.

“Everyone in the area should follow police advice.”

London North Eastern Railway, which operates East Coast Mainline services in the UK, appealed to passengers not to travel due to “major disruption”.

LNER said in a statement on X at 9.21pm: “We are experiencing major disruption to the LNER route. Emergency services are dealing with an incident at Huntingdon station, all lines are blocked.”

“Our advice is ‘Do Not Travel’. Please postpone your travel as much as possible.”
