New Delhi: The US State Department stunned global travelers with a major change in the visa process. On September 18, on July 25, 2025, the invalid released a new directive titled ‘Interview waiver update’. New rules have removed all the comfort that has existed before for many travelers, including foreign workers, students and the elderly.
Applicants should now apply for their nationalities or ordinary residences to be taken into account for an interview waiver.

As of October 1, 2025, most of the visa applicants will lose their ability to jump face -to -face. Only a narrow traveler category can use the waiver of the interview. These include the previous visa for full validity and the applicant is at least 18 years old, accredited authorities, diplomats, B1/B2 tourists and visas that revive visas.
A small supplement allows the H-2A Visa renewal to be entitled to the entitlement under similar conditions. The H-2A program allows US employers to bring foreign nationals for temporary agricultural affairs. Beyond these categories, everyone will have to look personally.
Children under the age of 14 and adults over 79 years of age had already lost the advantage of waiver in July 2025. Now, F-1 visa international students and H-1B and L-1 visa professionals should plan the negotiations at the US Consuls.
Students, Effect on Workers
Experts warn that this will significantly increase consular savings. Indian students who plan to participate in US universities in this fall may face delays when they are accepted due to an appointment shortage. Congress, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mounting Visa Work List by asking how to plan to address the worries already expressed concerns.
Students and foreign workers should be prepared for cancellation, re -planning or face -to -face interviews. The convenience of the Dropbox system, which allowed visa holders to be renewed without step into a consulate, is now for most.
Travelers need to know
- All non -immigrant visa applicants, including children under the age of 14 and the elderly over 79 years of age, should participate in a face -to -face interview on 1 October.
- B1/B2 tourists, business travelers and some H-2A employees are only suitable for waiver under strict conditions.
- Those with previous H-1B, L-1 or F-1 visa will need to participate in the interviews regardless of past approvals.
The long -standing convenience of the US visa system for talented workers, students and frequent travelers has ended. Applicants are advised to immediately check the consular programs, wait for delays and return to face -to -face negotiations.
The decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out one of the most important visa policy feedback in recent years and changes how millions of foreign workers have planned their travels to the United States.
