Watch: Mark Carney announced Canada’s plans to recognize a Palestinian state

Prime Minister Mark Carney said that Canada plans to recognize a Palestinian state in September and has become the third G7 country that has made such an announcement in recent days.

Carney said such a movement would be due to democratic reforms, including the Palestinian authority that made elections without Hamas next year.

The day after Israel announced that the UK would recognize a Palestinian state in September, unless it accepts ceasefire and other conditions, and a week after France made a similar announcement.

Most countries – about 150 of the UN’s 193 member countries – officially recognize a Palestinian state.

Carney stated the expansion of the Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, and the attacks on Israel as the reasons behind the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza and the dramatic change in Foreign Policy on October 7, 2023.

“In Gaza, the level of suffering in Gaza is unbearable and worse.”

He said that the recognition of the Palestinian state would depend on the fundamental reform of the governance of the Palestinian authority, making general elections without hamas in 2026 and terrifying the region.

The authority said that Canada has long been dependent on a two -state solution as part of the negotiated peace process, but “this approach is no longer sustainable”.

“The possibility of the Palestinian state is eroded in front of our eyes,” he said.

Carney, the announcement on Wednesday in the early hours of the Palestinian authority President Mahmud Abbas, he added.

Watch: BBC is suppressing the British Foreign Minister about the timing of recognizing the Palestinian state

The Prime Minister has recently been under pressure to address the Palestinian state, after the British and France – the Allies of Canada – with his own statements on the issue.

About 200 former Ambassadors of Canada and diplomat signed a letter on Tuesday that called Carney to recognize the Palestinian state.

The letter shared with Canada media organizations on Wednesday, Israel’s West Bank and Gaza actions violated Canada’s interests and values, he said.

Canada’s principles, “Gaza in great relocation, random bombardment and hunger hunger and the West Bank is abandoned every day with violent attacks of pro -settlers,” he said.

The recognition of the Palestinian state will not strengthen our long -term commitment to the determination of the Palestinian people, but also to completely reject the efforts to displace or deport the Palestinians, but also our long -standing commitment to determine the self -determination of the Palestinian people.
